Balancing an unstable system is a fundamental capability enabled by active feedback control. As a result, it has become a canonical challenge for any feedback control technique, ranging from classical control methods such as LQR to reinforcement learning with deep neural networks. 

Over 15 years, the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control at ETH Zurich pioneered a series of world-first balancing challenges, pushing the limits of feedback control.
